The announcement of a new specialized singing competition is under discussion at the National School for Music and Performing Arts “Hristina Morfova” Stara Zagora. The initiative is a joint one with maestro Veselin Katsarova and it is expected that the concept will be developed by the summer, this was announced by the director of the educational institution Krasimir Kushev in an interview with Radio Stara Zagora. The competition will be dedicated to the patron of the school and is on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the birth of Hristina Morfova, which is celebrated this year.

The NUMSI holiday will be celebrated with two concerts of students and teachers. One is on the birthday of the Bulgarian opera prima Hristina Morfova – April 24. It will take place in the Austrian capital Vienna, it is chamber, the program will include piano, saxophone, flute, accordion, classical and pop and jazz singing. The second concert will be on May 2 at the Stara Zagora State Opera.

380 students are currently studying at NUMSI “Hristina Morfova” Stara Zagora. They study instrumental, vocal, dance arts and acting, added Krasimir Kushev.

Hristina Morfova was born on April 24, 1889. in Stara Zagora. Her voice is soprano, covers 3 octaves, she is called the Bulgarian nightingale. She studied singing at the private academy of Prof. Maria Pivoda in Prague, and later in Paris, explains Raina Antonova from RIM Stara Zagora.

In the Czech capital, he met the pianist Lyudmila Prokopova, with whom he began a long and fruitful partnership. It is with her that Hristina Morfova’s first guest appearance in her hometown with a concert.

With great enthusiasm, the Bulgarian nightingale popularized Bulgarian folk songs, needlework and embroidery. They were her passion.

When in 1919 Composer Todor Pandev founded in Stara Zagora the musical group “Native Sounds” Hristina Morfova was among the first to start financially supporting small performers from the city. Until the end of her life, she provided funds for the performances and musical needs of the young singers.

After the earthquake of the spring of 1928. Hristina Morfova sends BGN 2,000. help their fellow citizens.
