Plovdiv will celebrate the Easter holidays with exhibitions, concerts and creative egg-writing workshops, announced the Culture Department of the municipal administration. The culmination of the festive program is on May 6, when the “He, She and the Accordion” concert will take place for the first time in front of the public at “Stefan Stambolov” Square.
It features accordionists Veronika Todorova and Kaloyan Kumanov. Together with them, Svetlin Staykov – guitar, Alexander Lekov – bass guitar, Miroslav Turiyski – piano, Nacho Gospodinov – drums and a string quartet consisting of: Stiliyan Dermendzhiev, Teodor Dobrev, Petya Kavalova, Anet Artinyan will take the stage. On the same day, World Accordion Day is celebrated – May 6. The date is associated with the first accordion patent, which was registered on May 6, 1829 in Vienna by organ and piano maker Cyril Damian and his sons Carl and Guido.
On Lazarus Day and Tsvetnitsa, the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv organizes an “Easter workshop at the Regional Ethnographic Museum” with guest master Svetla Rakshieva, who will introduce the participants to the art of writing eggs. In addition to painting their own egg, the participants will learn many new things about symbolism , about the traditions and ways of painting and writing eggs in different countries and in Bulgaria. From May 5 to 12, the exhibition “Easter in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia” will be on display the traditions of the three countries, the preserved pagan customs prevalent in these countries can be traced, as well as the extent to which Christianity has changed popular beliefs and ideas.
From May 1 to 15, the Children’s Department at the “Ivan Vazov” National Library presents an exhibition of Easter eggs “Colorful, Patterned Eggs”. On April 30, in the City Art Gallery, in the Icon Gallery in Old Plovdiv, a Velkidensky concert will be performed by the Evmolpeia Girls’ Choir.
The Municipality of Plovdiv and the National High School for Performing and Screen Arts – Plovdiv (NGSEI) present Easter entertainment to children. On Maundy Thursday and Maundy Saturday, when eggs are painted, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. there will be “Easter creative workshops for children” in front of the Municipality building. Anyone can decorate Easter eggs of their own design to take home, and high school alumni will help, assist and encourage them. Decorative Styrofoam eggs, eco-friendly water-soluble decorating paints and brushes are provided. Graduates of the Plovdiv Theological Seminary “St. Cyril and Methodius” will tell the children about the essence and meaning of the biggest Christian holiday, which lights up our homes every year, and its symbols. The lawns in front of the Municipality of Plovdiv are already decorated with large, beautifully painted eggs, the work of students from the National Art High School “Tsanko Lavrenov” and NGSEI.
For the May 5 holiday, two concerts will be held again on Stefan Stambolov Square – “Easter Miracles in the Land of Talents” with participants from the show “Asia in the Land of Talents” and at a dance studio of the Association for Culture, Arts and Sports “Nemezida” Plovdiv with manager and choreographer Mariana Daneva. In the late afternoon, a concert of Big Band – Plovdiv and soloists with conductor Nikolay Geshev is planned.
On May 6, representative ensemble “Maritsa” at SU “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” with artistic director Boyan Alexiev will present his program at noon on Stefan Stambolov Square.
