The symphonies in Shumen will perform a concert entitled “Side by Side” with students from the “Dobri Hristov” National School of Arts in Varna, which will take place on April 25 in the “Prof. Veneta Vicheva” hall, the symphony orchestra in the city announced.
From there they note that under the baton of Lyubomir Alexandrov, the concert will highlight the future potential of the Bulgarian music scene. The soloists are growing and talented musicians who have proven themselves in prestigious competitions – Bojana Nikolova (double bass), Sofia Ivanova (flute), Andrew Mladenov (clarinet), Elitsa Nikolova (piano), Dara Pavlova (violin), Stanislav Nikolov (accordion) and Fernando Leon Vasev (piano).
The concert program includes works by Beethoven, Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Ravel, Parashkev Hadzhiev and others.
“Alumni of the Varna School of Music have made a significant contribution to the world of music. Prominent our conductors, composers, singers, concert artists, music and ballet teachers, ballet artists have passed through the school. It is no surprise that almost half of the orchestra members of the Shumen Symphony also graduated from the “Dobri Hristov” National School of Arts. On the evening of April 25, among them there will be students who will contribute to the orchestral sound,” added the symphony orchestra.
National School of Arts (NUI) “Dobri Hristov” in Varna dates back to 1944 as the first state music institute in the city. In 1956, it received the name of the music teacher, critic, composer, academician Dobri Hristov. Today, the school offers a wide range of majors, including classical musical instruments, classical singing, ballet, visual arts, Bulgarian folk instruments, folk singing, pop and jazz singing. NUI “Dobri Hristov” actively contributes to the cultural scene of Varna through participation in local and international events, concerts and exhibitions, it also hosts national and international competitions promoting the work of Bulgarian and foreign composers, as recalled by the Shumen Symphonies.
