Residents of the Plovdiv village of Brestovitsa are going out for a big protest today. They will block the Ring Road of Plovdiv this afternoon to express their dissatisfaction with the unusable water. Black water has been flowing in the village for four years because it is contaminated with manganese. People use water carriers and constantly buy mineral water from the shops. However, until now, apart from promises, visible results are not noticeable.
The protest march will start from the center of the village at 16:00, with an organized transport. According to the plan, the protest procession should pass along the Ring Road, and the final destination is the “clover” with “Peshtersko Shose”.
Our media contacted the head of VIC-Plovdiv Yordan Chemishev, who stated that it is a matter of time to start the implementation of a project for second section of the supply water supply.
“For me, this protest is unnecessary. The company signed a financing contract for the second section of the water pipeline. We will receive the amount of 2 million, and the realization is a matter of time. The other part of the project is a commitment of the Municipality of Rodopi. They have made part of the technical project, they must apply for funding,Cherishev commented.
A week ago, it became clear that VIK should start work on the construction of the new water pipes. The project was divided into two – one part was to be funded by the Waterworks and they would build the water supply in the low and medium area. MRRD should provide funds to the municipality of Rodopi for the high area and the asphalting of the streets”.
According to Yordan Cherishev, after both projects are implemented, the water will be absolutely clean.
