65 soloists from seven countries auditioned for the soloist roles in Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro, which will be staged by the team of the Konstantin Kissimov Music and Drama Theater in Veliko Tarnovo
Especially for the audition, high-class singers from all over Bulgaria, China, Croatia, neighboring Serbia, Ukraine, Russia and North Macedonia arrived in the old capital.
Among the candidates were soloists from all opera houses in the country, as well as Bulgarians who work in theaters in Germany.
Artists competed for six of the solo roles in The Marriage of Figaro – Susanna, Figaro, Marcellina, Cherubino, Bartolo, Basilio and Barbarina. They had to perform one or two arias from the opera in front of a committee consisting of conductor-director Georgi Patrikov, director Petko Bonev and choirmaster Janitsa Parvanova.
“After the great national success with the mega-opera Don Giovanni that we achieved last year, we are now continuing with another masterpiece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
“The Marriage of Figaro” is a natural continuation in the repertoire line of our theater,” said maestro Georgi Patrikov.
At the last performance of “Don Juan” 10 days ago, the Italian soprano Marta Chung made her debut on the stage of the Veliko Tarnovo Theater in the role of Zerlina and the star of the State Opera – Burgas, Maria Tsvetkova-Madjarova, who was applauded by the audience as Donna Anna. A special guest of the show was the Italian impresario Davide la Bolita, with whom we discussed future joint projects and appearances outside the country, said MDT director Vasil Valchev.
