A three and a half year old child from Yambolsko was diagnosed with whooping cough. He was treated at the University Hospital in Stara Zagora, where the disease was diagnosed, the director of
The Regional Health Inspection (RZI) in Yambol, Dr. Radostina Kalcheva.

“The child is from the village of Boyadzhik, on April 18 he was hospitalized in the Infectious Diseases Department in Stara Zagora – with symptoms of whooping cough and pneumonia,” said Dr. Kalcheva. The child did not attend kindergarten and quarantine is not required, she specified.

The sick child was not immunized. “The mother never took the child to the regular immunizations, which up to this age are four according to our immunization calendar,” said the director of the RZI – Yambol.

His parents and the other three children in the family – aged 11 months, eight and 13 years – were tested, and they gave negative samples. The children had symptoms of whooping cough, they were probably tested later and therefore the disease was not confirmed in the laboratory, explained Dr. Kalcheva.

The health authorities in Yambol have issued prescriptions to general practitioners in the district. “To review their patient lists, to look for all unimmunized children and to immunize them in a short period of time,” said the director of the RZI – Yambol.
