On April 23, Radilovo celebrated 148 years since the announcement of the April Uprising in the village. The commemorative event was an act of appreciation for the feat and self-sacrifice of Radilovtsi in the April Epic of Bulgaria. And as every year it was organized by the local community center “Zora-1903”.

The celebration began with the laying of flowers at the monument to the fighters and in front of the memorial plaque of the English missionary Lady Strangford, related to the history of Radilovo because of the diplomatic assistance she provided after the suppression of the April Uprising and the construction of a hospital there for the victims of the battles. He continued by reading texts from books of local legends and historians from the village, recounting the selfless uprising of Radilovtsi in April 1876 and the dramatic events that followed it.

On the last day of the National Reading Marathon, in Radilovo, they chose to read their story from the pages of books by local authors: “From the past of Radilovo village” by Ivan Vachkov, “Radilovo, my pride” by Stoyanka Dineva and “Two villages with one destiny” by Petar Karadjov. Thus, the organizers combined the tribute with appreciation for hometown heroism and memory, with the national reading initiative and with the celebration of World Book and Copyright Day.

The celebration was honored by the mayor of Radilovo town hall, Dimitar Danchev. The “Literary Walk in the Community Center of Pazardzhik” stopped for the event in the village – a joint initiative of the Regional Community Center and the Society of Writers in Pazardzhik, supporting literature, books and writing.

In the Reading Marathon, both locals and guests read about the April Uprising in Radilovo: community leaders Marena Vachkova, Alexandra Karadzova, Gergana Janusheva, Radilovo author Petar Karadzov, mayor Dimitar Danchev, the children of the village and people of different ages from the audience; Radka Encheva-Kocheva from REKIT “Chitalishta” for the region, the chairman of the Society of Writers in Pazardzhik – Todor Karakashev.

Angel Katsarov, a primary school student, recites Stoyanka Dineva’s poem about the local heroes of the uprising, Todor Banchev and Georgi Angeliyev. The writer Todor Karakashev read his poem about that historical moment and spoke about the inspiration in literature from history and about the artistic recreation of documentary facts and events.

It was a lively meeting! As the memory of Radilovtsi lives on even today! 148 years after the feat to rise up for national freedom and find the strength to continue after the pogrom. To resurrect their village after the devastating fire in 1876.

Homage to Apriltsi and in Radilovo!
