Two cases of whooping cough were registered in the Sliven region as of April 24, the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) announced in the city.

They have been found in children with incomplete immunization status, without an epidemic relationship between them.

When asked if there is information on the number of unvaccinated children in the district, the RZI informed that the pertussis component is contained in various types of vaccines that are administered to children from two months to 12 years of age (according to the country’s Immunization Calendar) and it is not possible to determine the number of unimmunized children, reports BTA.

Immunization coverage for the region with a six-component vaccine (against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Poliomyelitis, Haemophilus influenzae type B and Viral hepatitis type B) for 2023 in children aged 2 months is just over 88%.

A filter in children’s facilities is carried out daily, regardless of the epidemic situation in the country.

At the moment, it is not necessary to introduce additional anti-epidemic measures regarding the pertussis disease for the Sliven region, the RZI also reports.
