On May 2 at 7 p.m. in the Military Club of Sliven, theater connoisseurs will be able to see the latest production of the “Flying People” Theater Studio, “Oscar and the Pink Lady”, staged by the actress Vyara Nacheva.

Immediately after its premiere on March 26 in Sliven, “Oscar and the Pink Lady” preceived the audience award and financial support from the International Youth Theater Festival “Ocean of Love” – Pazardzhik ҆24 (March 29-April 1).

With this production, the director Vyara Nacheva and her graduates from “Flying People” showed a lot of courage and non-conformity. The theme of the road to death of a 10-year-old boy is hardly the easiest thing for children and young people to play. The value of the play as a text, messages and philosophy is deep enough and it is no coincidence that it is currently among the main shows for the season at one of the best modern theaters – Theater 199 in Sofia. But while the winner of “Askeer” Maria Stefanova and other stars of the native theater play there, in Sliven the stage is played by young people – schoolchildren and students.

The play is based on the novel of the same name by Erich-Emmanuel Schmidt, adapted as a stage play in 2003. 10-year-old Oscar is sick with cancer and lives in a hospital and asks himself the question “If God existed, then why do we suffer?”. On the eve of Christmas, his support is former wrestler Maminka Roza, once known as the “Pink Lady”, who convinces him to write to God. Each letter to God is a wish, and each fulfilled wish is a stage in Oscar’s life. And each stage is filled with love, different but always sincere. Thus, he manages to grow in the 10 days until his death and experience emotions and moments that some people are deprived of, regardless of how long they have been in this world.

The conversation with God on the eve of Christmas of the dying Oscar, played by Maria Petrova (17 years)brought both laughter and tears to the audience during the premiere. Zornitsa Zaharieva (18 years old) in the image of mother Rosa gave a brilliant lesson to adults on how to talk, play, live with a child, whether healthy or not.

The young actors from “Flying People” once again proved that in many respects they are at the level of the professional theater. Natural presence, feeling for the text, understanding of the stage as a common space with the others on it.

In “Oscar and the Pink Lady”, the most captivating thing achieved by Vyara Nacheva and her graduates is the rhythm of the performance. Every line, every action happens naturally to the audience’s senses and they merge with them without time to think “what comes next”. It just follows as naturally as real life can. Achieving empathy, not only on an emotional level, but also on a perceptual level, between 200 people in a room is a mastery, supported by a little “divine” intervention.

The play features: Antonio Rusinov, Gabriela Ruseva, Daniel Minchev, Zornitsa Zaharieva, Maria Ivanova, Maria Petrova, Marian Neykov, Maya Dineva, Plamen Zhelev, Samuil-Petko Makhnev, Sebastian Ivanov, Simona Staneva.
