A revitalization project envisages the Sliven Colodrome becoming a multi-functional facility

The revitalization of the existing kolodrum in Sliven aims to build a multifunctional sports and cultural facility. This was said today by Arch. Bilyana Belcheva, who is the author of the project and together with arch. Kamelia Metodieva presented their project proposal to municipal councilors, architects, designers, media and citizens.
The presentation was also attended by the Mayor Stefan Radev, the Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Cycling Federation Dragomir Kuzov and Joseph Smets, Chairman of the Track Commission of the European Cycling Federation and long-time executive director of the Belgian Cycling Federation.
The collodrome will be of the 3rd category according to the categorization of the International Cycling Federation, the track will be 250 meters in circumference, the width will be 6.5 meters. The authors proposed that the track be paved with wood, and after discussion it was decided that Joseph Smets would give an opinion after a study.
A service building was designed with the necessary premises, changing rooms, medical center, fitness area, bicycle shop, restaurants. It is planned to combine other sports training by building an athletics track, a BMX park with curved ramps, a mini football field, on the terrain of which an ice rink could eventually be built. It is planned to build 1,400 new places, including disabled ones. There are several warehouses for equipment and bikes, halls of different capacities, elevators, a buffet area, a bicycle repair area, a cargo entrance with a ramp, pedestrian access. The project envisages the construction of three metal canopies, and their covering will be made of photovoltaic panels. There will be dedicated stages for concerts, festivals, summer cinema and other outdoor events.
After the project is completed, the facility will be able to host national and international outdoor cycling competitions, the authors claim.
Dragomir Kuzov commented that the designers did the research very well and there are no objections to the project.
Among the questions asked by those in attendance were whether the facility would be profitable or supported solely by taxpayer funds, and whether the outdoor events would not interfere with people living nearby.
BGN 16.5 million has been earmarked from the state budget for the repair of the collodrum, which is located in the city park and has not been functioning for years.
