In Bulgaria, animal husbandry is being destroyed, and milk production is decreasing. The Bulgarian farmer cannot satisfy his own village. We have no production. This is what farmer Petar Karadamyanov from Dolna Mahala, Plovdiv region, told the BNR.

“There is a demand. There is no milk in Bulgaria. The problem is that there won’t be any soon. Animal husbandry is being destroyed and the thread is being lost somewhere.”

“Our colleagues with goats are refused milk. No one wants to buy goat milk in Bulgaria – this is a big problem. There was no market, there is nothing to do with it – these are the explanations. Goat milk is a world hit. Goat cheeses and cottage cheese are very wanted”, said Karadamyanov.

In his words, “several small farms” have united, made investments, want to concentrate their quantities, but the dairies refuse them – “the dairies are looking for them to command and create conditions”, because “they have been working like this for 30 years and will continue”.

We have to think about what happens to the fresh milk that is produced by farmers, Simeon Karakolev, co-chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Association, is categorical. This year, the purchase of goat milk is being refused en masse, he confirmed.

For three years, the import of dry and condensed milk from Ukraine has increased several times, Karakolev pointed out data and sharply criticized the lack of control and policy to sanction unfair trade practices – for example, the sale of low-quality cheese with palm fat and dry milk, “an imitation product that people buy instead of cheese”. According to him, similar practices are absent in Greece, Romania and France, “because there are statesmen who come out and say – this is not good, it is not useful”.

“The process is reversible as long as there is political and statesmanship will.”

We eat garbage, and someone encourages this, Simeon Karakolev expressed his indignation.

“All this is corporate interest. The question is where is the national interest. Why should they buy milk from farmers? Hey, where are the trucks from Poland, from Hungary, from Ukraine! People are doing business.”

Karakolev emphasized that large fines and closure of enterprises can change the current situation – “they fine you 1000 BGN and tomorrow you do it again and register huge profits”.

“These dissuasive, disciplining normative bases must be changed, and this thing will not happen. Then let him make the imitation product, if he wants to, with 100% water content, to mix these imitation space foods, with powdered milk, with palm oil. The point is to write it in capital letters – it has nothing to do with cheese, nothing to do with yellow cheese.”

According to the breeder, there is also a lack of an education campaign for consumers by health experts to explain the harm.
