The aim of the initiative is to encourage the cultivation of more flowers, not only because of the ennobling of the urban environment, which flower balconies bring, but also because of one very important reason – the bees. Global human population growth is outpacing available honey bee colonies. This trend increases the danger of pollinator shortages, and this is even more true in cities.
“For us, this is an extremely important cause. Our business is about finding the best home for people, and sometimes we forget that the city and the Earth are our common home. We feel a responsibility to the urban environment and its improvement. The goal is not to green someone’s balcony, but let’s set an example and draw attention to this important topic. We believe that change starts with us and this action is a good way to unite the team around the small but significant things,” commented Hristo Tsvetkov, manager of Yavlena-Varna.
Planting a small honey garden on the balcony is one of the easy and enjoyable ways people can help protect this important species. A number of European cities are promoting urban beekeeping on a larger scale, with urban beehives even found on the roofs of the Bundestag and the Paris Opera. During the action in Varna, every citizen will be able to take one pot with seedlings until all the flowers are exhausted.
