36% are girls in schools with professional fields of “Computer Science”, “Applied Informatics” or in the profile “Software and Hardware Sciences”
This year, Bulgaria is joining the initiative of the International Telecommunication Union to celebrate the Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technologies. This time the theme is ‘Leadership’. This is stated in the greeting of the Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Gvozdeikov, on the occasion of the International Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technologies.
Bulgaria is a leading country in the representation of girls and women in education and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. 36% are girls in schools who study in the professional fields of “Computer Science”, “Applied Informatics” or in the profile “Software and Hardware Sciences”. Over 6,600 are female students aged 18 to 36 at Bulgarian universities in technical, computer and engineering majors. Perhaps that is why Bulgaria is in first place in Europe in terms of the number of employed women in the technology sector.
“Leadership is not a quality that a person acquires at birth – it is built, and it depends on the support of the family, the community and the state to receive a positive direction. The Ministry of Transport and Communications supports the development of girls and women in technology”, notes Gvozdeikov.
