A day after the expiration of the prescription given to the mayor of Stamboliyski municipality to clean up an unregulated landfill near the village of Joakim Gruevo, a team of the Regional Environment and Water Inspection – Plovdiv (RIOSV – Plovdiv) checked on the spot whether it was fulfilled.

The subsequent control established that the municipality had cleaned up until recently the highly polluted area near the Vacha river, by removing the accumulated waste to a place regulated for the purpose. During the inspection, weighing notes were presented certifying the delivery of about 85 tons of garbage to the Regional landfill for domestic waste in the village of Tsalapitsa.

The experts of RISW – Plovdiv discovered the pollution on April 19, during a planned tour of the settlement to check whether the mayor fulfills the obligations imposed on him by the Law on Waste Management. Then they thoroughly inspected all the entrance-exit roads to the village of Joakim Gruevo, the areas of the former village dump and the cemetery park, the bed and banks of the Vača River, and others. In the northeastern end of the village, about 300-400 meters from the last houses, on a dirt field road leading along the right bank of the Vacha River, eco-experts found unregulated waste pollution on a field with an approximate area of 1.5-2 decares. The waste is of mixed household nature – plastic and paper packaging, bottles, plastic bags, mineral water tubes, clothes, furniture parts, mixed construction waste, old car tires, biodegradable waste (branches and leaves), etc. The mayor was immediately given three days to clean up the unregulated littering and take measures to prevent it from happening again.

This year, the eco-inspection has already drawn up an act to establish an administrative violation of the mayor of the municipality of Stamboliyski due to unregulated accumulation of waste, and this was found again in the village of Joakim Gruevo.

Teams of RIOSV – Plovdiv continue to check according to schedule the territory of all settlements in the territory controlled by it for illegal dumps, and in case of violations, take the administrative punitive measures provided for in the eco-legislation against the mayors.
