Beroe’s team defended its women’s basketball championship title with a dramatic 67-66 (18:18, 15:14, 15:19, 19:15) victory over Montana 2003 in the decisive fifth game of the final playoffs in the championship. Thus, the “greens” reached their fourth consecutive trophy.

Beroe took home advantage at the Obshinska hall in Stara Zagora and managed to close out the series, although he failed to do so in his two visits to Montana after winning the first two encounters.

The end of the first period came with a draw – 18:18. The two teams continued to be extremely equal and the match went point for point. Thus, at the break, Beroe led by only one point – 33:32.

After the break, the two teams resumed the clash at a higher pace and with frequent changes of leadership in the result. Gradually, the hosts began to rely more on their shooting from a long distance, but the Montana 2003 team remained solid in the game under both baskets, and after several successive offensive rebounds, the visitors took the lead with 51:45 minutes left in the third period. In the last 60 seconds, Beroe scored three consecutive penalty kicks to reduce the deficit to 48:51 before the final ten minutes.

At the beginning of the last quarter, the team, led by the acting head coach Jacqueline Zlatanova, made a series of five unanswered points and again went ahead in the score at 54:51. Montana 2003 reacted and took the lead with 64:58.

Beroe melted his deficit to just one point 65:66 with 50 seconds remaining and took the lead after two accurate penalty kicks by Tsvetomira Naumova 4 seconds before the end, so that the Staro Zagorje team could triumph with the fourth consecutive title of Bulgaria.

For the winners, Deana Stoyanovska scored 19 points.

For Montana 2003, Terranick Battle had a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Taya Robinson added 20 points.

This was the sixth consecutive final between the two teams, and for the first time since 2019, the clash for the trophy was decided in five games.
