Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov has declared to the Ukrainian ambassador to our country Olesya Ilashchuk Bulgaria’s readiness to assist in the restoration of the country’s energy infrastructure hit by Russian missile strikes.
“The deepening of cooperation in the field of energy is of mutual interest to both countries,” Malinov stated at the meeting, quoted by the press center of the energy department. The provision of adequate and timely support from the Bulgarian side to the Ukrainian side in the short and long term was discussed.
The issue of the potential sale of parts of the equipment for the “Belen” nuclear power plant to Ukraine was also commented on in connection with a decision of the National Assembly of July 2023. According to Minister Malinov, the Bulgarian side will take the necessary steps to implement the process in shortest terms.
The provision of alternative gas supplies to Ukraine after the suspension of the transportation of Russian natural gas through Ukrainian territory was discussed, which can be done through the Vertical Gas Corridor project currently implemented by several countries, including Bulgaria.
According to Malitov, this will ensure continued operation of the gas transmission network and underground gas storages in Ukraine.
