Plovdiv will apply under the “Growth Regions” program with projects for the development of sustainable urban transport and the increase of green areas

The Municipality of Plovdiv will apply with projects for the development of sustainable urban transport and the increase of green areas under priority 1 “Integrated urban development” of the “Regional Development” Program 2021-2027. This was announced by Plamena Terzieva, director of the “Business Development and European Policies” Directorate at the municipal administration during a meeting with interested parties, which was held at the “Boris Hristov” House of Culture. Applications for the program are open until May 9.
The total amount for which the administration and all interested parties will be able to apply is nearly BGN 59 million. The municipality’s intentions are to create public electric transport, Terzieva pointed out. For this purpose, there is already a municipal enterprise “Ekobus”. Funding of BGN 29.5 million will be applied for, with which electric buses should be purchased, the existing system with information boards upgraded, as well as the Traffic Management Center. Reconstruction and repair of the Ecobus depot, an accessible environment for people with disabilities, signaling, fencing along streets and boulevards are the other activities that are included in the project ideas.
The second group for which the administration is preparing projects is the green areas and the development of the street infrastructure around objects in the field of education and health care. The goal is to build on and supplement already attracted resources to educational institutions, said Terzieva.
Interested organizations can apply independently or as a partner of the municipality.
Kamen Stratiev, an expert from the Regional Information Center in Plovdiv, recalled the guidelines for applying for the program. Plovdiv is among the ten major cities in the country included in it.
The website of the Municipality of Plovdiv has published an invitation to submit project ideas for the implementation of the Administration’s Integrated Development Plan, as well as information on eligible measures under the program, eligible beneficiaries, application conditions.
