Alexander Alexandrov greets the upcoming holiday with the dance “Alfatar Lazarki”

Through the “Dobrudzha” media group, the honorary citizen of Dobrich and long-time leader of the Dobrotitsa ensemble, Alexander Alexandrov, wished to send a greeting on the occasion of the upcoming Lazarov Day holiday.
In addition, the honorary citizen of Dobrich recalls the main moments in the festive ritual of Lazarov Day.

According to tradition, a girl can be a lazarka only once. This was a very important ritual, because it was believed that a girl who did not lazaar would not marry.
The girls are divided into groups of several girls. There are singers, dancers and a lady who leads the group. Just like carolers, lazarkas go from house to house and sing songs for health, blessing and prosperity.
Finally, the girls perform a special ritual dance – buenek. They jump high to make crops grow and stamp their feet to multiply livestock.
Finally, the mistress of the house presents each lazarka with a raw egg – a symbol of immortality. On this day, green willow branches are cut, which on the following day, Palm Sunday, are placed at the entrance of the home to protect it from evil forces.
