Children under the age of 14 will not be able to ride and use scooters, and those under the age of 18 must wear a helmet. Children between the ages of 14 and 16 can only drive vehicles on the bicycle infrastructure. This is proposed with changes in the municipal ordinance for the organization and safety of road traffic in Kyustendil. They are to be voted on in the Municipal Council.
Drivers of individual electric vehicles are obliged to comply with the Road Traffic Act. Persons who have reached the age of 16 can drive electronic vehicles on the bicycle infrastructure and on the roads and street network, on which the maximum permitted speed is up to 50 km/h.
A maximum speed of 25 km/h is also introduced. With the new changes in the regulation, requirements are also added to this type of vehicle. They must have working brakes, a mechanical or electronic bell, a device for emitting a white or yellow clearly visible light at the front, a device for emitting a red light at the rear.
With the additions to the document, the fines for violators of the rules are also regulated – BGN 10, if the individual electric vehicle does not have lighting or the driver under the age of 18 does not wear a helmet.
BGN 50 will be the penalty if the brake system is not working or if the driver does not have reflective elements or drives irregularly.
The introduction of the new rules and restrictions came about after reports of indiscriminate riding of scooters on the pedestrian zones and alleys along the central “Bulgaria” boulevard and the city center by children and teenagers.
