Zyumbilev himself launched the idea of building a city railway in Plovdiv, similar to the S-bahn in major European cities, long before he became a regional governor. He is convinced that this is the future of transport. As of today, this project is already actively being worked on.
“This year is extremely important for the implementation of this project. Funding has been secured from Europe, so here we should rather speed up the pace of implementation,” commented the regional governor. He recalled that the project includes the municipalities of Plovdiv, “Rodopi” and “Maritsa” and, if joint efforts are made by all, it can be implemented because it is extremely suitable for Plovdiv and the neighboring municipalities.
The urban railway project is being done by the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRI). It has many aspects, including buffer parking, as it is all over the world – people leave their cars on the outskirts of the city, get on the train and go to work in the industrial areas. In addition, there will be a connection from the city of Plovdiv to Plovdiv Airport.
“It is extremely important to realize this project at least on the basis of a technical specification, and in the following years to move on to its realization” – believes Zyumbilev.
According to the information of Plovdiv24.bg from NKŽI, after the preparation of the technical project, the construction of the city railway can begin in 2025.
