Trafficking in public transport tickets in Plovdiv continues despite the fines

Used tickets continue to be sold by conductors in public transport in Plovdiv. This happens despite the fines, and the practice has been going on for years. Another such case was reported by a reader of TrafficNews, who said that she once again bought used tickets. She shared that she boarded a #116 bus from the stop to the Seminary shortly after 7:00 a.m., as an acquaintance of hers boarded the bus from the stop to Thursday Market. Both noticed that their ticket numbers were different.

“How long will they continue to make fools of us and sell us old tickets?”shared the woman, who said this is far from the first time she’s noticed such a discrepancy.

We remind you that the media has repeatedly informed us about similar cases in which public transport staff “do business” through already sold tickets. In this way, the profit from the sale is not reported, and the money is collected by the same employees.

Third parties are also involved in the scheme in question, who have the commitment to dig up the containers for discarded tickets and sell them to drivers and conductors for a modest amount of money. From all this, the transport companies and the Municipality of Plovdiv are accumulating losses, and the quality of the public transport service continues to be unsatisfactory for the citizens.

The director of the municipal enterprise “OKT” Georgi Stoilov told our media that every day conductors or drivers are caught selling tickets illegally – either returned by passengers or taken from another place. In recent months, the enterprise has tightened control over the sale of tickets on buses in Plovdiv, and although fewer than 25 inspectors work in the municipal enterprise, they manage to crack down on illegal ticket trading. It is expected that the new Tixi system will stop this practice.
