We’re going to the yellow cobblestones, if by 30 days we don’t…

Who is this country that does not seek its money from the one who created the plagues. If I break my neighbor’s fence, he will condemn me to pay for it. However, someone poisons an entire land, but the state does not pay attention to it, but takes some money. This is how the outraged Elena Yankova from Brestovitsa, who was one of dozens who came to the protest today because of the water problem in the village, described the situation. For four years, the locals have been fighting to get drinkable water from their taps, not one with mud and manganese. People from the protest claim that the cause of the water pollution is the mini-hydroelectric plant in Kadievo.

This afternoon, dozens of residents of Brestovitsa gathered at the cloverleaf of Peshtersko Shosse and the Ring Road in Plovdiv and blocked traffic for an hour as a sign of protest. They came to support them from Parvenets and Kadievo. The mayor of Rodopi Municipality Pavel Mihailov and the chairman of the Municipal Council Vladimir Mariinov were with the protesters.

Mihailov explained that the municipality has done everything necessary to deal with the problem. There are already three new water sources with good water quality that can satisfy the village with the required amount of water. The technical projects for the construction of the supply water supply and replacement of the internal water supply network are also ready.

“I believe that the state will provide funding. There is no reason not to start the work,” commented Mihailov. He added that his administration has already selected contractors, but funding is needed.

BGN 25 million is needed for the complete replacement of the internal water supply network and asphalting of the streets in the village. However, the amount is too much for the municipality and it is forced to seek it from the state.

Shouting we want clean water, we don’t want manganese, the protesters blocked traffic for a short time. They carried placards: “We want water, not empty promises”. Asen Kovachev from Berstovitsa was carrying a tube full of black water. “This is how we live in Brestovitsa, and we don’t want it to be like that,” Kovachev said. And he showed a label on which it was written that the water was filled on April 12 from a fountain on “Ivan Vazov” street in the village.

The procession was led by the chairman of the Association “Life for Brestovitsa” Lubomir Tomov, who announced that they are giving 30 days to solve the water problem in the village. If the necessary funding is not provided, the protest will move to the yellow cobblestones in the capital.

“This is genocide! Our children are not destitute,” commented Maria Pramatarova from the protest. She said that Brestovitsa would be a wonderful village if it weren’t for the water problems. It is home to 5,000 people who want only one thing – clean water, not to poison their children. According to her and the protesters, sooner or later the use of this water will affect people’s health.

“We are ready for any kind of action if the peaceful people do not help to solve the problem, the woman explained. And she added that the state cannot pay millions four times for elections, and not be able to provide the necessary funding to solve the problem in Brestovitsa.
