Why did rose areas drastically decrease? Will one of Bulgaria’s symbols survive? Marcelo Valkov, a young rose grower from Karlovo, spoke on the subject before the “Brazdi” program on BNT, “Plovdiv 24” quotes.
“When the purchase price was BGN 7-8 per kilogram of pink flowers, immediately the following year, the lame, keravo and sakato bought roses. Only where they didn’t sow them on the terraces. It was the same with lavender. When people see a high price, they say to themselves : “Oho, that’s mine”. Heard-unheard – neither knows how to look, what is wanted and how and when to spray.
“Roses are on the verge of extinction. Where there were roses, car showrooms are now sprouting. The production of roses will go directly into the Red Book of Bulgaria. I have not seen new plantings for several years. I can only watch them being uprooted. Politicians totally ignore only rose production, but also agriculture,” he added.
