In Haskovo, the 52nd Literary Days “Southern Spring” and the eponymous National Competition for Debut Literature were solemnly opened. The ceremony took place in front of the building of the local “Ivan Dimov” Drama Theater with the participation of the Haskovo Municipality Wind Orchestra, the “Native Song” choir and cheerleaders.

The mayor of the municipality, Stanislav Dechev, opened the forum, which will continue until Friday. 30 young authors participate in the competition in four genres – “Poetry”, “Prose”, “Children’s literature” and “Literary criticism”. “It’s spring again and it’s back in our city on the wings of books,” Dechev said in his speech. “I am glad that Haskovo in the next few days will once again be a scene of youth, creativity and the strong Bulgarian word. I am excited that today’s debutantes are part of the future classics of our literature tomorrow,” Dechev also noted.

The fire of the event was lit by the laureate of the competition in 2011, Ivan Landzhev. “It’s the first time I’ve been here in 13 years. I remember my participation very clearly. This competition has always been very special for me, because one cannot win a debut award a second time, that’s what makes it unique,” said Langev. He added that he has great memories of the city, the ceremony and the excitement.

The program for this evening continues in the theater with an evening of the laureate Landzhev and a presentation of the book by the journalist Georgi Milkov “Stories from the hand luggage”.
