On the occasion of May 6 – the Day of Courage and the Holiday of the Bulgarian Army, on April 30 (Tuesday) at 11:00 a.m., the Naval Museum will open an exhibition “Saints – warriors and patrons of the battlefield”.

The icons represent the cult of the warrior saints revered in the Bulgarian lands – St. George, St. Dimitar, St. Theodore Tiron, St. Mina, as well as Archangel Michael, leader of the angels and patron of warriors. The exhibition exhibits icons painted in the 18th and 19th centuries, which represent the heroic as part of Orthodox iconography. Among the images, those of St. George, St. Dimitar and St. Mina stand out, in their characteristic scenes.

The Hilarion Makariopolsky Renaissance Museum in the city of Elena, the Specialized Museum of Carving and Painting Art in Tryavna and the Art Gallery in Kazanlak are visiting with exhibits from their collections. Most of the icons are part of the Trevna School, which arose at the end of the 17th century and continues to exist until the beginning of the 20th century.

The exhibition can be viewed until the middle of July, and for free – on the Day of Courage and the Holiday of the Bulgarian Army, when the Naval Museum will be open with free admission.
