On the eve of Easter, volunteers distributed over 400 packages of non-perishable food to pensioners from Kyustendil municipality and neighboring settlements. The products for the campaign are collected by donors, with the aim of reaching those people who need them the most.

“This is for you, for the holidays. You’re expecting the kids to come, aren’t you.”

“Thank you. Wow, wow very heavy, very much.”

Grandma Toshka from the Kyustendil village of Radlovtsi is among the hundreds of elderly people who this year also received packages of food products collected by the volunteers from the “Moment of Humanity” association.

“May they be alive and healthy and always good girls. May they not forget us and visit us on holidays,” said grandmother Toshka.

“People willingly accept the packages before the holidays, they are very happy that there is someone who pays attention to them. They deserve it. Elderly people value this moment of humanity very much, they value the attention of young people very much, so they don’t feel forgotten,” said Tsvetanka categorically Kyoseva, mayor of the village of Radlovtsi.

The initiative of volunteers from Kyustendil has been implemented for the 12th year in a row.

“I always feel full of love and joy, but unfortunately sometimes there is also a little sadness, because we see how some people live in silence, forgotten, some are forgotten by their own children. We have encountered such sights that we cannot help but they shake. There are people without a roof, without stoves, especially in the winter campaigns… So our initiative was not only for products for several years, we collected from people what they can help with, some people even donated wood, heating stoves, heating appliances, everyone can help with whatever they can, we saved many homes”, explained Maria Stefanova.

“We do the initiative for Easter and Christmas, but in general, I would say that since covid – donations are decreasing and it is more difficult than individual donors to be able to collect 1000 packages. Rather, we already rely on kindergartens, schools , corporations to help us”, says Iva Georgieva.

“Over the years, focusing on the condition of the elderly, we started to make more special packages for people who cannot cook for some reason or are more difficult to move or some of them do not have stoves, electricity There we put more ready-made things, canned goods, more soft biscuits, jam, so we already have several types of packages and lists”, added Angela Nikolova.

In the last 3 months, the volunteers from the association have also managed to organize medical examinations for the elderly in the places where they live and where there are no permanent medical personnel.
