Deputies accepted the early release of Rosen Zhelyazkov as Speaker of the 49th National Assembly. 129 people’s representatives voted “for” and 103 were against. There were no abstentions.

On Wednesday, a draft decision for the early release of Zhelyazkov, submitted and signed by deputies from PP-DB and BSP, was submitted to the parliament. Cases of violation of the parliamentary rules were cited as arguments, including the introduction of an extraordinary point for the release of the head of the NHIF, although he refused the submitted resignation, as well as the reluctance of the Zhelyazkov National Assembly to honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide with a moment of silence.

Before the vote, Rosen Zhelyazkov said goodbye to his colleagues with an extremely emotional speech, refusing to broadcast it directly on BNT and BNR, as suggested by Yordan Tsonev from DPS.

“There is a thought of a great aphorist who says that sometimes you have to be silent in order to be heard. All of us in this hall are people. But people who are sent by other people to work for people. As people we have our weaknesses and passions. But as people’s representatives, we must have responsibility, accountability and integrity. In conclusion, Zhelyazkov thanked his colleagues “for both their trust and distrust”. “Both are mirrors – one is a little more crooked, but both create some kind of image and self-esteem. I thank both! And since I can’t to each individually, I want to collectively apologize to everyone. Apologize for action or inaction by which I have affected any of you as people,” Zhelyazkov stated.

Even before the point for the removal of Rosen Zhelyazkov from the chairman’s post entered the plenary hall, BSP leader Kornelia Ninova explained on the sidelines of the National Assembly why her party supported both the PP-DB and Vazrazhdane signatures.

“On Wednesday, two signatures were initiated for the resignation of Rosen Zhelyazkov – from Vazrazhdane and from PP-DB. We signed in both. Vazrazhdane failed to collect signatures, we collected them together with PP-DB. Any speculations that we played with this or that is pre-election manipulation of parliamentary groups and individuals,” said BSP leader Kornelia Ninova.

“One does not need to be an intellectual titan to understand what happened in the hall. The PP-DB today made a complete circus with heavy statements about how they will demand the resignation of Zhelyazkov and will show a red card to those in power, as if they themselves were not in power. Today, the PP-DB failed the quorum, saving Rosen Zhelyazkov from a debate and the possible acceptance of his resignation”, stated Toshko Yordanov from “There is such a people” immediately after the failure of the quorum.

“I want to congratulate my colleagues from Vazrazhdane, PP-DB and BSP for the new coalition together with ITN. I am very relieved that there will no longer be questions about assemblies”, commented the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov.

“Today we have a poodle coalition. Now they can open the channels again, bring back the head of the “Customs” and start stealing again. But they underestimated the people – we have an election. The poodle coalition will enjoy the robbery very little, and then they will be responsible for everything.” said the chairman of DPS Delyan Peevski.

“No one in this country has absolute power. Anyone who has believed in the last two months that he has such absolute power is wrong. And what is happening at the moment is displayed. When you don’t work for the people, there are consequences. And they will see each other in less than 40 days,” PP-DB co-chair Kiril Petkov said from the parliamentary rostrum.
