The texts envisage postponing the liberalization of the electricity market for domestic consumers by one year
The National Assembly finally voted on the changes to the Energy Law. The texts envisage postponing the liberalization of the electricity market for domestic consumers by one year.
At first reading: Electricity liberalization postponed by a year
Initially, the bill provided for the exit to the free electricity market to take place from July 1 of this year. According to the arguments of the importers, our country is not ready for the change. Thus, if the changes are approved in the second reading, the liberalization will be a fact from July 1, 2025.
Against the changes stood the “Continuing the Change”, who fear that by postponing the liberalization we may lose money from the Recovery and Sustainability Plan. The deputies will also decide whether to allocate money from the state treasury for “Mini Maritsa-East”.
The votes are taking place against the background of a protest by energy workers in front of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers.
