On the eve of one of the brightest Christian holidays, in the lobby of the State Archives – Dobrich, a showcase “Lazarus Day – Palm Sunday – Easter” is exhibited.

The traditional custom of the Christian holiday – Lazarovden is the Lazarus. Its participants are girls over 16 years old, called lazarki or lazarits. They go around the fields and houses, playing and singing songs about fertility, health and family well-being.

Tsvetnitsa is an important Bulgarian national holiday, as well as one of the most popular name days – of people whose names are somehow connected with vegetation. It is also called Vrabnica, because of the important place in a number of rituals of willow branches, reminiscent of the palm branches with which Christ was welcomed in Jerusalem. Palm Sunday is always celebrated on Sunday, one week before Easter.

Easter or Resurrection is the biggest, brightest holiday for Orthodox Christians and is celebrated in every Bulgarian family. In the Christian religion, the Resurrection of Christ celebrates the return of Jesus Christ to life after being crucified and buried.
