A prize for the best collective interpretation was won by the theater troupe from the French classes of PEG “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” during the XXVII edition of the National Festival for Francophone School Theater “Francophone Scenes in Bulgaria”. 8 ensembles from language schools in Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo, Blagoevgrad and Pernik presented plays on the theme of “The Other”. Goldsmiths from the VIII and IX classes presented Merlin Vervaier’s “Word Searchers” (“Les fossoyeurs”) to the audience. At the heart of the plot is the threat over the word “peace”, which may disappear because it is obsolete. However, thanks to one of the heroes, this does not happen and the word is saved. The troupe was created at the Profiled Language High School under the National Program “Together in Arts and Sports”, its leader is the French language teacher Veneta Kiryakova.
The festival has been held since 1993 at the initiative of the Association of French language teachers and the French Institute in Sofia. Later they were joined by the Alliance Française. The pandemic interrupted the tradition in 2020, but it was restored in 2024, when it was 30 years since our country joined the international organization of francophones. Varna hosted the festival a few days ago.
