Awarded Alexander Uzunov and Damyan Damyanov with the “Golden Key” badge of honor

The municipal council decided to award the highest award to Shumen “Golden Key” Alexander Uzunov and Damian Damyanov.

The two were voted separately.

21 of the councilors voted “for” the former mayor of Shumen Alexander Uzunov to receive the badge of honor. He didn’t mind, two abstained.

Academician Damyan Damyanov was also awarded the “Golden Key” after his nomination was supported by 22 advisers. There was no objection, and three abstained.

Before the voting took place in the hall, the meeting of the Municipal Council was interrupted for consultations between the political groups, because two opinions were heard.

According to Ventsislav Venkov, there should be no rush, but “the text should be clarified and why this award is being presented.” Nikolay Kalev agreed that the texts in the statutes for all Shumen awards should be updated, but this does not prevent the two nominations from being voted on now.

After the consultations, however, agreement was reached on the matter and both proposals received support.

With another decision, the Municipal Council posthumously honored journalist Krasimir Krumov with the Badge of Honor. The decision was taken with 22 votes “for”, 2 “against”, 4 “abstentions”.

Unanimously with 35 votes in favor, the Municipal Council confirmed the winners of the “Shoumen Award for Art and Culture”. With 34 votes “for” and 1 “abstention”, the local parliament confirmed the winners of the “Shoumen Award for Education and Science”.

After these votes, Vencislav Venkov announced that he was withdrawing his proposal to impose a temporary ban on the awarding of honors, distinctions and awards until their statuses are updated. Venkov added that at the next session he will submit “the names of a group of mayors to be awarded the “Key of Shumen”.
