Four new cases of children with whooping cough have been registered on the territory of Plovdiv, a reporter was told Plovdiv24.bg Dr. Milena Panayotova, director of the Directorate “Supervision of Infectious Diseases” at the RZI – Plovdiv.

This means that the total cases become 8.

One of the sick children is a girl of one year and ten months, and the others are two boys of 8 and 11 years.

The three children have received the necessary vaccines and their condition does not require hospital treatment. They are treated at home and take antibiotics.

At the moment, the only hospitalized child is a girl of one year and four months. He was admitted to Plovdiv UMBAL for treatment with pneumonia.

“The child was not in a serious condition, there were complications when he was hospitalized. The etiological diagnosis is clear and treatment for whooping cough has been started”

According to Dr. Panayotova, the child and his family have recently returned from Germany and for this reason he has missed vaccines from the immunization calendar

We remind you that the symptoms are associated with a dry, irritating cough that lasts more than 2 weeks.

“In people with immunity, it is not as dramatic as in non-immunized people, so maybe some people have it with a mild cough, but they can still spread the disease,” she added.
