The municipal council adopted changes in the regulations for transport activity and traffic safety in the municipality of Kardzhali

--

At today’s meeting of the Municipal Council, the municipal councilors adopted amendments and additions to the Ordinance on the organization of transport activity and traffic safety on the territory of the municipality of Kardzhali, as well as an Ordinance on amendments and additions to the Ordinance on the determination and administration of local fees and prices for services the territory of the municipality of Kardzhali.

Both agenda items concern paid hourly parking or the so-called Blue Zone. It became clear that the changes made did not include changing the fees, but in order to relieve the traffic flow in the city, the first and second, fourth and sixth zones were merged, and the ninth was dropped.

“The topic of the blue zone is always debatable. The changes introduced at the Municipal Council meeting are cosmetic. They will facilitate the parking process. Citizens will have the opportunity to park in more places. The changes in general aim to improve the efficiency and activity of the Blue Zone,” Mayor Erol Mümün commented to journalists and added that the proposal for the changes was submitted after several consultative meetings and things were discussed in detail.

“Of course, the topic of the Blue Zone will not end at today’s meeting. It is open. It is always possible to reduce or expand its scope. It is important to take into account the people’s desire for the Blue Zone to be more effective”, said the mayor.

He also defined the goals set for the changes in the regulations, which are: a drastic reduction in the flow of cars on the streets where the traffic is heavy; regulation of parking in parking lots and real capacity tracking; creating conditions for expanding the offered service and increasing quality; the determination of maximally wide concentrated zones in which to exercise effective control for compliance with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act.

Among the expected results of the implementation of the changes in the ordinance, the designation of specific parking lots for parking subscriptions for individuals will free the streets from parked cars occupying parking spaces for more than 6 hours. “Short-term parking spaces will be released in front of public buildings and institutions. Interblock parking lots will be freed up. The parking control of obsolete cars will be increased,” said Mayor Erol Mümün.

“We are not increasing parking fees, nor are we increasing the territorial blue zone. The first and second zones are united – the ideal center, the fourth and sixth zones, and the ninth practically disappears, moving to the eighth. It is about the right part of Bulgaria Blvd. – from Hotel Bulgaria to the bus station. And the right part of the boulevard completely remains the seventh zone. Thus, in practice, more parking spaces are provided,” Deputy Mayor Tunjai Şükrü commented to journalists.
