The Speaker of the Parliament Rosen Zhelyazkov (GERB) was removed from his post. The proposal was submitted by “Continuing the change-Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) and BSP on Wednesday. A day later, the deputies of both political forces, as well as those of “Revival” and ETC. Thus, with 129 votes “for” and 103 “against” of GERB and DPS Zhelyazkov parted with the post, he was sent by the deputies to the plenary hall with applause.

This is more of a sycophantic act as this parliament is coming to an end. Next week, the people’s representatives go on Easter vacation, and then – on pre-election until the vote on June 9.

PP-DB and BSP motivated their request for early release of Zhelyazkov with his overall behavior as head of the institution and for systemic failure of the legislative program.

According to PP-DB Zhelyazkov abuses power and authority, works in the interest of the GERB-DPS political bloc.

“This act was not against the man Rosen Zhelyazkov, it was against the Speaker of the National Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov, who systematically violated the rules of this National Assembly more than once by carrying out the orders of Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov, who repeatedly shouted at him from the front row. What we want to say purely politically, it is a very clear message – Mr. Peevski and Mr. Borisov do not own this country. If GERB wants to have a Euro-Atlantic direction, they will have to get rid of their dependence on Mr. Peevski. The rules and institutions that should work in the state should not be subject to any person. I am sure that in the case of Rosen Zhelyazkov, if he had acted of his own free will, these violations that we read from the rostrum today would not have been carried out.”said the co-chairman of the PP Kiril Petkov.

“Revival” wanted the resignation of Zhelyazkov, because the point for the vote of no confidence in the caretaker government was not allowed, arguing that it did not correspond to the Constitution.

GERB leader Boyko Borisov defined the demands for Zhelyazkov’s release as emotional outbursts, and Delyan Peevski as populism.

“I have worked with almost all the presidents of parliaments in the recent history of Bulgaria, not to say with almost all of them, because I did not work with the first two in my capacity as a representative of the people, but on other projects. I can assure you that Mr. n Rosen Zhelyazkov is one of the most worthy Speakers of the Bulgarian Parliament in our recent history”said during the debates Yordan Tsonev from DPS.

Because of the vote, Borisov announced that there was a new coalition between PP-DB, Vazrazhdane and BSP.

Already last week, the PP-DB announced that they were considering asking for Zhelyazkov’s resignation, as the occasion was his decision to submit to a vote in the plenary hall the resignation of the manager of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), Stanimir Mihailov, despite a resignation application filed in the parliament’s registry her.

Zhelyazkov thanked the deputies and asked for an apology

Zhelyazkov himself gave a farewell speech, apologizing to everyone he had hurt.

“There is a thought of a great aphorist who says that sometimes you have to be silent in order to be heard. All of us in this hall are people. But people who are sent by other people to work for people. As people we have our weaknesses, our passions, but we as people’s representatives must have responsibility, accountability and integrity. And another quality that we sometimes lose is humanity.

First of all I want to thank you. First of all, thank you for your trust, and thank you for your distrust. Both trust and distrust are mirrors – one is a little more crooked, but both create an image and self-esteem.

I want, because I cannot to each one individually, but to all of you collectively, to apologize for actions or inactions, by which I have affected any of you as people. Dear colleagues, it was an honor for me to be the chairman of the 49th National Assembly. Thanks”.
