Energy workers and miners from the country’s coal regions protested under the windows of the government. The trade union organizations KNSB and KT “Support” also participate in the organization. The demands of the protesters are that the operation of the coal plants should continue even after the liberalization of the electricity market.

According to energy experts, due to the carbon emission quotas that the European Union imposes, the electricity produced by the thermal power plants is too expensive to sell on the exchange, which will lead to the closure of the plants for economic reasons. And this will cause the loss of thousands of jobs in the sector.

“We were on the verge of citizens paying higher and more expensive electricity. The electricity system in the country is about to collapse. Very few rotating powers are running. This will be one of the last peaceful demonstrations”, protester Nasko Mitev said on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria”.

Shortly before noon, the energy workers and miners were allowed into the National Assembly building to observe the debate. The entire perimeter in the Triangle of Power is blocked.
