The topic of the challenges facing livestock science in the conditions of global climate change is being discussed at an international scientific conference taking place at the Vereia Hotel today and tomorrow (April 25 and 26). The organizers are the Agricultural Academy – Sofia and the Agricultural Institute – Stara Zagora.

Nadezhda Chakarova, deputy mayor of Stara Zagora municipality, took part in the scientific conference. “It is my pleasure, on behalf of the mayor of the municipality of Stara Zagora, Zhivko Todorov, to welcome you on the occasion of the scientific conference dedicated to this current topic, which in the dynamics of time is becoming more and more significant – global climate changes and the challenges facing the European livestock sector. Agricultural and livestock communities are extremely important for the progressive development not only in Bulgaria and Europe, but also in the whole world. This is proven by the many foreign participants today,” said Nadezhda Chakarova at the beginning of the conference. “Through your research, you are able to respond to the pace of climate change affecting the agricultural sector. We believe that a successful partnership between us will help the topic reach more people and attract the interest of young researchers as well. I wish a successful and fruitful discussion in the next two days”, Nadezhda Chakarova addressed the organizers.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Assoc. Deyan Stratev also commented on the challenges facing animal breeding science. He emphasized that the subject has been extremely closely monitored and developed in the scientific circles in recent years. “I can’t skip the Agricultural Institute in Stara Zagora and, of course, miss going back to my hometown. I congratulate the organizers for the topic chosen at today’s conference. The last one in which I participated was in Scotland, and there they discussed exactly this problem, and exceptional results from projects that lasted for 6 years and monitored the changes were also presented,” said Prof. Dejan Stratev. He added that these types of events are proof of the need for a constant search for a close relationship between science and business in the context of the topical topic of climate change in recent years. According to him, conferences with international participation provide an opportunity to popularize and introduce innovative solutions by sharing good practices and experience.

During the meeting, it became clear that the policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food is directed in this direction. “The new strategic plan for the development of agriculture and rural areas 2023-2027 enables targeted support oriented towards innovative solutions for environmental protection, innovations based on the specifics of sectoral productions and dissemination of results to a larger number of stakeholders countries. The budget for this intervention is in the amount of over 40 million euros for the entire program period”, emphasized the deputy minister.

Official guests and participants in the conference were also representatives of the State Agricultural Fund, Thrace University, the Embassy of China in Bulgaria, experts from Bulgarian and international universities and animal husbandry institutes.

The main topics that will be addressed during the two days in Stara Zagora are food quality and safety, crop production, livestock production and the economy.
