12 councilors from Blagoevgrad submitted to the chairman of the Municipal Council Radoslav Taskov a request to hold a local referendum on the intention of the Municipality of Blagoevgrad, in the person of the mayor Metodi Baikushev, plans to take a loan in the amount of BGN 14.5 million, which must be returned to the next 15 years.

On this occasion, a public discussion was held on April 22, where it became clear that dthe reasons why it is necessary to take on long-term debtthe mayor said. The first of them is related to the need to provide funds for specific capital objects and payments, for which the targeted funds received from the State Budget are not available on the municipality’s accounts, according to the findings in the ADFI report in the amount of BGN 6,840,167.

The second reason is related to the need to provide funds for the municipality’s own self-participation for implemented projects, laid down in the municipality’s investment program, financed by national and EU and EEA programs, as well as for advance payment between the verification periods for part of the programs , scheduled for implementation in 2024/2025.
