Strong and impactful messages were delivered by the participants in the 10th edition of the National Student Conference on Civic Education “Family-School-Society”, organized by the “St. Kliment Ohridski” Dobrich University with the assistance of the Regional Education Department and the Municipality of Dobrich, Ministry of Education , National Children’s Palace and DKT “Dora Gabe”.

“Thank you very much for giving us the wonderful opportunity to be a moment in the life of your modern event. I still experience the Saturday day with deep meaning, conveying the importance of your idea to the students…” These are part of the words of Lilia Bogdanova – teacher and project leader of the student who won first prize in the “STORY” section – Stoyan Antonov from the city of Lom , in the tenth edition of the Family-School-Society National Student Conference on Civic Education.

The themes of the literary works, projects, presentations, drawings, films and dramatizations presented in the competition outlined the views of young people on pressing problems related to communication, prejudice and aggression – in the family, school, society.

The works were distinguished by strong and impactful messages in the field of ecology and environmental protection; the respect and preservation of national memory and identity; the strong desire to participate in changing negative models and attitudes in society.

The National Conference on Civic Education, for another year, proves to be a recognizable and anticipated event for socially active students and teachers from all over Bulgaria. This is confirmed by the 340 works received from 42 settlements, from all corners of the country.

In the final stage, 57 works from 35 schools were evaluated and awarded, informs the SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

The members of the jury – prominent representatives of the scientific and cultural circles in the country – were faced with a very difficult task: Prof. Dr. Dimitrina Kamenova – chairman of the jury, Prof. Ph.D. Nikolay Kolishev, Svetlana Vasileva – head of the RUO, Dobrich, Dimitar Dukov – journalist and public figure, Dr. Kremena Miteva – chief curator of the “Yordan Yovkov” Memorial House, Teodora Denkova – director of the RB “Dora Gabe” and Zdravka Dobrudzhanska – senior expert at the RUO, Dobrich;

The conference proved to be a necessary stage for the students to express themselves in their first attempts to claim and defend an open civic position.

It is a place where the idea of interconnectedness between family, school and society unfolds in the whole palette of social emotions and views; a place where primitive common human values are presented from another perspective; a place where differences are seen and accepted as something necessary for the development of society. And as Aileen Akhmedova, from the city of Gotse Delchev, says in her story “The Pancakes’ Guilt” – “Everything is necessary in this world. Sometimes you want something sweet. Other times salty. Third – sour. Fourth – bitter. And some evening spicy. As long as you don’t overdo any of the flavors, you can enjoy the food.”

And these are, in fact, the flavors of life – each unique in itself and so necessary. It is up to us how we choose and combine them to enjoy them.
