The state reduced the terrain of the historic Tsarevets hill by almost one hectare. By a decision of the Municipal Council from January 2024, the Municipality was granted the right to manage the “Tsarevets” Architectural Museum Reserve, an architectural monument of culture located on an area of 211,088 square meters. Two months later, however, the Municipality received letter from the Ministry of Culture. In it, it is announced that a new State Property Act has been drawn up, according to which AMR “Tsarevets” is exclusively state property and is under the management of the Ministry of Culture. However, in the letter in question, drawn up by state officials, the area of the hill is listed as 210,976 square meters. This discrepancy in the dimensions of the historic fortress opened up work for the municipal councilors, who had to vote on a change in the text of their own decision of January 25, 2024 d. for it to be corrected with the new smaller dimensions of the Tsarevets hill indicated by the state. “The way they brought it up, if every year they “bite off” one acre of “Tsarevets”, in the end there will be nothing left of it. I hope they don’t make a habit of it,” joked one of the councilors after the vote.
