BTA receives the “Varna” award for its intensive coverage of the city’s cultural and public life

The team of the BTA Correspondence Bureau receives the “Varna” award for the intensive coverage of cultural and public life in the city and on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the agency. This was decided by the Municipal Council of Varna at its meeting today. The prize is collective, in the “Journalism” section.
The winner of the “Varna” grand prize for outstanding achievements in the field of culture this year is the artist and designer Dimitar Traichev. The prestigious distinction is given for his overall creativity and his indisputable contribution to establishing high artistic standards in the visual culture of Varna.
In the “Literature” section, the award goes to Krasimir Mashev for his book “Mud Baths”, published in 2023, in which he describes the heroes of the transition. The prize winner in the Fine Arts category is Hristo Hristov, who successfully presented last year’s jubilee exhibition in Varna, Plovdiv and Germany, thereby contributing to the affirmation of the city’s positive image.
In the “Theatre” section, the individual award is shared by two actors. Konstantin Sokolov from the Drama Theater “Stoyan Bachvarov” was awarded for his exceptional acting skills in the construction of the image of the shoemaker Peter in the performance “The Boot”. The young actress Maria Tomova receives the prize for her fascinating transformation in the main role in the play Pippi Longstocking. The collective award goes to the team of the State Puppet Theater for the successful realization and impressive acting work in the musical “Peter Pan”.
The winner in the “Opera” category is the Symphony Orchestra of the Varna State Opera, which was awarded for high professional skill and artistic achievements in the concerts “100 years since the birth of Dobrin Petkov”, “Fifth Symphony” – Mahler, “On the eve of the Nativity of Christ” . For high artistic achievements in the new choreographic version of the ballet performance “Romeo and Juliet”, their colleagues from the Opera’s ballet troupe are also recognized.
Journalist Zoya Cheresharova-Mihailova from RTVC – Varna is the winner in the “Cinema” section for her work as the author of the documentary film “Flight to Dreams…”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Varna Children’s and Youth Opera. In the “Journalism” section, the individual prize goes to photojournalist Plamen Gutinov for his exceptional photo exhibition “The Pulse of the City”. The collective one is for the BTA team in Varna.
The municipal council also accepted a nomination, proposed today, for awarding arch. Delyan Zhechev in the “Architecture” section. He is one of the authors of the project of the temple “St. Procopius of Varna”, as well as the new library in Burgas.
The “Varna” awards will traditionally be presented on the eve of May 24.
