9 are the new cases of whooping cough in children in Burgas this week alone, reported the Regional Health Inspectorate. Epidemiological studies are still ongoing for some of them. Seven are students from two Burgas schools. With those registered earlier in the year, the cases become a total of 15, eight of which have been proven. There are the most children in the age group of 10-14 years, said Dr. Miroslava Kiselkova, director of the Directorate “Supervision of Communicable Diseases” at the RZI, quoted by BNR Burgas.

“From the Ivan Vazov school, we have three students who are in different grades – second, fourth and tenth. We have four children from the “Lyuben Karavelov” school – three are in the fifth grade and one is in the fourth grade.”

The students are from different classes. There is no outbreak of an infectious disease, reassure the RZI. There are no classes that have switched to online training because of sick children. The disease in the infected students is mild, no one has been hospitalized. Contact children from the classes are placed under medical supervision for 14 days.

“There are enough pertussis vaccines. Every single jeep, in whose practice there are missed children or those who are currently subject to immunization, can take a vaccine and immunize the children at the appropriate age”, said Dr. Kiselkova. Cases of whooping cough are confirmed by PCR testing. with nasopharyngeal discharge.
