“In recent years, I fought very actively against the entire model in Bulgaria, which did not provide media freedom, did not provide the rule of law. I fought a very hard battle with GERB. These changes that I initiated here are part of this battle. In order for there to be any changes in Bulgaria, laws are needed. Since we cannot make them in Bulgaria, they must come from Europe.”
This is what MEP Elena Yoncheva, nominated for the upcoming vote for the European Parliament by DPS, told BNR.
“Freedom is in me. I determine whether I can make compromises or not. I have not made compromises either in journalism or in what I have done in politics,” she declared.

Yoncheva noted that with the liberals and MPs from the DPS, who are part of “Renew Europe”, they work together “on all topics that practically affect Bulgaria” and she knows their positions.
“I have a very clear attitude towards what is happening in Ukraine. As a military correspondent – I have covered many wars, I have been wounded, kidnapped, I know what war is, I have always been in favor of the fact that an attack is aggression”, Elena pointed out Yoncheva, asked how her positions on Ukraine will be reconciled with those of the group of liberals, to which she will belong if she continues to be an MEP, but already from the DPS.
“As an MEP, I have always called on Europe to be a leader not only regarding the conflict in Ukraine, but also regarding Gaza, Palestine,” she pointed out.
