Lazarus is an exciting folk custom that has preserved its original features to this day. Thanks to them, the meaning of this holiday is revealed as a spring, maiden holiday, with characteristics and symbolism affirming fertility and the cycle of life.

Girls from the third grade of “Maxim Rajkovich” Secondary School with teachers Nedka Pavlova and Sofia Ilieva recreated the custom in the building of the Municipality of Lyaskovets, portraying the mayor and his health and fertility team. They performed the Lazar songs “Oi, Lazare, Lazare”, “Lalence”, “Vila moma, Lazare”, stomped horses and recited poems themed with the holiday.

Mayor Vasil Hristov thanked them on behalf of everyone, presented the little girls with sweet eggs and an Easter bunny, and in the baskets of the girls and the only guy who accompanied them, coins were dropped by all present, as a sign of gratitude for the good wishes.

The municipal councilors in Lyaskovets were also happy today with the upcoming Lazarov Day holiday. For the second time in one day, the municipal building was resounded by the ringing voice of the girls, who called for health, happiness and prosperity.

The girls’ group of students in the third and fourth grade of the primary school in Lyaskovets “Tsani Ginchev” was led by the children’s teachers Silvena Petrova and Galya Noteva. They performed songs – greetings to everyone and pronounced author’s names. The children wished the local government: “A lot of money for the children in the treasury!” Many realized projects, many new sites, money to fill the bank accounts! May health and well-being be with you, every day and hour! We wish everyone a long life – at least a century!” and many other interesting nicknames. They presented Chairman Dobrev and Mayor Hristov with souvenirs made by them, stomped horses and wished them happy holidays.

The girls were welcomed by the management before the beginning of the meeting of the Municipal Council-Lyaskovets. Chairman Sergey Dobrev thanked them on behalf of everyone, presented them with messages about Lazarov Day and the rites of the holiday, and treated them to sweet treats. The housewives put coins in the children’s baskets as a sign of gratitude for the good wishes.
