On Friday – April 26, around 2 p.m., traffic will be restored in the Burgas lane between the 20th and 21st km of the “Trakia” highway. Due to the repair of an agricultural underpass, since March 5, traffic has been passing in both directions in the Sofia lane. The completion of the construction works will restore normal traffic on the motorway and make it easier for motorists to travel before the Easter and St George’s Day holidays.

The main repair of the agricultural underpass at the 20th km of AM “Trakia” is carried out by “AVTOMAGISTRALI” EAD. The construction and installation works were awarded after an open procedure under the PPA last year. The value of the contract is BGN 792,000 including VAT and the funds come from the republican budget.

The bridge facility is 28.5 m long and has been in operation since 1978. In the section of the road to Burgas, the road slab had broken waterproofing, and there were cracks in the pavement at both joints. With the major repair of the underpass, the operational condition is improved and the safe passage of vehicles is guaranteed.

In addition to the renovation of the facility, about 200 meters of the highway surface before the underpass in the lane to Burgas have been repaired, which increases traffic safety before the active tourist season.

It is planned to continue the repair of the underpass in the Sofia lane after the Easter and St. George’s holidays. The goal is to complete the repair works by mid-June, before the start of the active tourist season and an increase in traffic to the Black Sea resorts.

During the repair of the facility in the lane for the capital, vehicles will pass in both directions in the renovated lane for Burgas.

In order to increase traffic safety during hours of intense traffic on weekends, as was the case until now, the passage of heavy goods vehicles over 12 t will be temporarily restricted and redirected along a bypass route on the I-8 Sofia – Plovdiv road.

On Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Trucks traveling in the direction of Plovdiv will stop at the 5th km of the “Trakiya” highway on the road connection with the first-class road Sofia – Plovdiv and will return to the highway through the “Vakarel” road junction – at the 23rd km of the “Trakia” highway. On Sunday, the restriction will be from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the same alternative route will be used.

In the case of increased traffic in the section of the “Trakiya” highway, and according to the instructions of the “Road Police”, reversing traffic can be introduced with two lanes in the direction of Plovdiv and one towards Sofia from 2 p.m. on Friday to 2 p.m. on Saturday and two lanes in direction Sofia and one towards Plovdiv from 2 pm to 8 pm on Sundays.
