Under the auspices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Republican Tournament in Police Personal Protection and Karate was held in Blagoevgrad

Republican tournament in “Police personal protection” and karate was held today in the “Skaptopara” hall in Blagoevgrad. The official opening began with the anthem of Bulgaria and introductions from the hosts of the competition ODMVR-Blagoevgrad and the Municipality of Blagoevgrad.

The main culprit for the competition to be held in Blagoevgrad is the police officer at the ODMVR-Blagoevgrad Velko Chapkanov, who received a plaque of gratitude from the “Sports Association” – Ministry of the Interior and the “Center for Combat Training and Sports” at the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior.

The sport “Police Personal Protection” was created for practice by officers with police powers and is an essential part of the entire training process in the MIA system. The disciplines are highly specialized and simulate situations close to real ones. Although the acquired skills are built in a process subject to sports rules, decisive, uncompromising and creative actions are required. The achieved sports results are an indicator of the level of professional training.

The goal of practicing the sport “Police Personal Protection” is to build and maintain a constant high level of training of police officers throughout their career.

The tasks that are solved through its practice are related to: – maintaining a high health status and functional capacity; – acquisition and improvement of specific motor habits, skills and technical knowledge; – building moral-willed qualities in the conditions of teamwork; – establishing the current state of preparation; – achieving sports results; – formation of social relations; – expansion of the scope of systematically exercising employees and strengthening of the “Police Personal Protection” sections at the Directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Police actions are performed – techniques with and without aids while observing one’s own safety and that of others in situations where there is disobedience or attacks by an offender. Receptions are systematized in four groups.
group I: grappling attacks, ranged attacks, choking attacks;
group ІІ: attacks with blows;
group III: knife and gun attacks;
group IV: protection with a baton from blows, prevention of taking away a baton, controlling and holding with a baton; protection against baton attack;

The choice of protection is arbitrary. During the implementation of control, commands are given by the police officer for the purpose of respect, and the offender is brought to the border of the competition area. Every third (last) technician from a group, after carrying out protective actions and control, is searched and handcuffed.
