Today, dozens of residents of the Smolyan neighborhood “Bekliitsa” arrived at the meeting of the Municipal Council-Smolyan. They were present to express their disagreement with the Mayor Nikolay Melemov’s report on the purchase of property, with the aim of expanding the cemetery in the quarter. “This is the only sure thing, that the cemetery must be expanded”. On behalf of the residents of the neighborhood, arch. Atanas Kadzhebov, who was also a municipal councilor many years ago. From his words it became clear that people have filed a complaint against this intention to all possible institutions. “I am telling you that you will not expand the cemetery down to the houses. This will not happen. If the municipality does not conduct a hydrogeological study of the terrain in question, we the people will do it. We will prove that the terrain is unsuitable for a cemetery practice. For as long as I can remember, water flows there, the rocks are crumbly. When you expand the cemetery in this direction and the water goes through it to your houses, imagine … and there are children playing there. This will not happen”, Arch. Kadzhebov was categorical in his statement. He added that he wonders why a plot of land would be bought before it is known whether it is suitable at all and meets the legal requirements for a cemetery park. In response, Mayor Melemov told him , that he absolutely agrees and accepts his arguments and would withdraw his report earlier. During the discussion, people asked why and what the bargers are currently digging there. Deputy Mayor, Eng This provoked disgruntled remarks such as “We don’t believe you”. There were sharp remarks from the opposition in the face of “Our City”, and he replied that until now he has not met “a city councilor with a ruder attitude”.
