An increase in occupational accidents among men and a decrease in their number among women for the region of Haskovo in the last year were reported during the meeting of the Regional Labor Council. Although, in general, the total balance for work-related accidents, compared to the previous year, is an increase of 5%, against the background of the data for the country, a lower growth is reported in the Haskovo region.

Today’s meeting of the commission was dedicated to April 28, which has been declared World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

To overcome the accidents at work, the responsibility lies with both the employers and the workers themselves, stressed the regional governor of Haskovo, Ginka Raicheva, who is the chairman of the commission. In addition to representatives of the control institutions, employers and trade unions also participate in it.

The International Labor Organization report states that outdoor workers are a major group of those exposed to the dangers of climate change. It says that the main damages are from excessive heat, ultraviolet radiation, as well as air pollution, the director of the Labor Inspection in Haskovo, Kircho Kirev, pointed out at the meeting.

According to the report at the local level, in the Haskovo region in 2023, out of 1264 planned inspections, labor inspectors made 1274 for compliance with labor legislation in enterprises. Of these, 31 are inspections for the investigation of occupational accidents.

Over 6,300 violations of labor legislation were found within the framework of the past year. 320 of the violations are of the norms for safe working conditions. 263 are the criminal decrees that entered into force for a total of over BGN 290,000.

On behalf of NOI-Haskovo, they reported that in the period from April 25, 2023 to April 25 of this year, 47 occupational accidents were declared on the territory of the district, in which there were four deaths. The Director of the Territorial Division in Haskovo, Ognyan Dobrikov, explained that two of the accidents happened on the way to work. On the territory of the region last year, there were no workplace accidents that led to disability.

After the meeting, the participants paid their respects and laid flowers in front of the memorial plaque to those who died in work accidents.
