Association “Euroregion Danubius” was established in 2002 on the initiative of the Regional Administration – Ruse and the District Council – Gyurghevo

Association “Danubius Euroregion“, one of the leading organizations in the field of cross-border cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania, celebrated its 22nd anniversary. On this occasion, earlier today, a general meeting was held in Giurgevowhich was attended by the deputy regional governor of ruse Georgi Georgiev, the Chief Secretary of the Regional Administration, Irena Todorova, the Chairman of the District Council, Dumitru Beyanu, as well as a number of other representatives of state and local authorities from both countries.

The partnership between ruse and Giurgevo is not only an example of excellent cooperation in every sphere of public life, but it is also a prerequisite for the development of the economic and cultural potential between Bulgaria and Romania“, said Georgiev and pointed out that this would be difficult to achieve without the active assistance of the executive director of the Association “Danubius EuroregionLily Gancheva.

Over the years, the organization has established itself as a leader in the field of civil initiatives, the exchange of ideas and facilitating the interaction between the state and local authorities on both sides of the Danube River. “Danubius Euroregion” has become a synonym for correctness and sustainability not only in the implementation of cross-border projects, but also in the implementation of a number of international events, and in this case I mean the holding of high-level bilateral government meetings with a key role in upgrading the traditional friendly relations between the two countries’, added the deputy regional governor. He shared that he highly appreciates the role of Lily Gancheva in this process and is sure that thanks to it the partnership between Bulgaria and Romania it will continue to be filled with new content on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the comprehensive dialogue in the European Union. “I am confident that despite the dynamic global environment, together both countries will continue to make the necessary efforts to address the challenges and facilitate better connectivity in every aspect of our daily lives, achieving real results.”said Georgiev.

Association “Danubius Euroregion” was established in 2002 at the initiative of regional administrationruse and District Council – Giurgevo, as a tool for implementing cross-border cooperation. Over the years, the Association has become an indispensable partner not only in the relations between ruse and Giurgevobut also between Bulgaria and Romania. In the last ten years alone, more than 100 projects have been implemented with her help in all spheres of socio-economic life in the country. Thanks to the professionalism and unbreakable will of Lily Gancheva a number of trade and tourist exhibitions, concerts, exhibitions and even performances have taken place. Among the main priorities in the work of “Danubius Euroregion“is an improvement of cooperation between the countries on both sides of the Danube, not only in the economic spectrum, but also in a number of other sectors. Among them are the response to crisis situations, the development of bilateral business relations and cooperation in the field of education, culture, tourism, social activities, health care, sports and agriculture. Lily Gancheva has also supported the implementation of a number of infrastructure projects on the territory of the district ruse and county Giurgevo. Because of her services to the communities in both regions, she was elected as an honorary citizen of both ruseas well as on Giurgevo.

Among the guests of today’s event from the Bulgarian side were also the mayors of Byala, Vetovo and Dve Mogili, respectively Dimitar Slavov, Dr. Mehmed Mehmed and Bozhidar Borisov, the deputy mayor of Tsenovo Tsvetomir Petrov, as well as Todor Petrov from the Municipality of Slivo Pole, due to impossibility for the presence of the mayor Valentin Atanasov. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Business Center for Support of Small and Medium Enterprises.
