“Klet Bulgaria” publishing house is the leading coordinator of the project whose task is the introduction of STEM/STEAM education from 1st to 4th grade

/CROSS/ 25/04/2024, Sofia. 45 teachers from Bulgaria, Serbia and Slovenia laid the foundation for the first ever international network of STEAM primary teachers in Belgrade this past weekend. They participated in the first international meeting on the project STEM/STEAM in Primary School: Mission Possible, or S.TEMPO project, which is coordinated by “Klet Bulgaria” publishing house. The participants, including 15 teachers from schools that are members of the Association of Cambridge Schools in Bulgaria, also underwent special training on creating STEAM activities for the initial stage based on innovative STEM/STEAM methodology.

“Klet Bulgaria” publishing house is the leading organization and main coordinator of the project, which is under the Erasmus+ program. Its task is to introduce the application, teaching and learning of STEM/STEAM in primary education by creating an international network of STEM/STEAM teachers.

The S.TEMPO project started in October last year and will continue until June 2025, when it will end with a final conference in Sofia. The main partners of the project are the representative offices of the Klett publishing house in Bulgaria, Serbia and Slovenia, as well as the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” with the Faculty of Educational Sciences and the Arts, the University of Belgrade and the University of Ljubljana with their faculties of pedagogy.

The training of teachers forms the basis of a network of teachers who can serve as support for their colleagues and further facilitate the process of implementation of the S.TEMPO methodology and further of STEM/STEAM education in the countries participating in the project.

In addition to the creation of the partner teaching network under the project, a map of the curricula for the initial stage for the three countries has also been prepared. It presents a clear and up-to-date picture of the potential cross-curricular areas from 1st to 4th grade where STEM/STEAM activities can be planned and easily implemented without the need for significant changes to the relevant subject curriculum.

A S.TEMPO methodology has also been developed, which provides clear guidance on how primary school teachers can develop STEM/STEAM activities in the classroom.
