The acceptance of Bulgaria into the Schengen area is an important strategic goal, which is a leading motive in the formation of the Euro-Atlantic majority that elected the Denkov cabinet in the current parliament. For the fulfillment of this goal, full synchronicity between the institutions is necessary, so that the full potential of parliamentary diplomacy is used, including the one hitherto unclaimed by the Prime Minister – that of the members of the European Parliament from the DPS.

This is stated in a letter sent by the co-chairman of the PG of the DPS Delyan Peevski to the Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov.

Delyan Peevski demands from the prime minister to present a full report on what has been done for the acceptance of our country in Schengen since the election of the government on June 6th of this year. until today.

We want to know everything so far – all the facts and circumstances related to the work of the cabinet chaired by Nikolay Denkov for Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area, the letter says.

We require the Prime Minister to outline and inform us of the steps he intends to take by the Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting on December 4th. We expect that as a result of the implementation of this strategy, Bulgaria will receive a date for acceptance into Schengen, insists Peevski.

The co-chairman of the PG of the DPS emphasizes that for the sake of good coordination between the institutions and interaction with the parliament, the prime minister must report to the National Assembly on a weekly basis what has been done, and also present a thorough analysis, conclusions and forecast results.

We remind the Prime Minister that the DPS entered the constitutional majority and supported the judicial reform in order to realize the important goals for Bulgarian citizens, such as our accession to the Schengen area. Because this has a direct relation to the conditions for attracting serious investments in Bulgaria, and from there a direct impact on the standard of living of all Bulgarian citizens, concludes Delyan Peevski.
